With great sadness, the Benicia Old Town Theatre Group announced the sudden death of one of the actors in their upcoming production of “SWEAT”.
Actor George Simmons, 60, of Suisun suffered a massive heart attack on Friday, March 22, and succumbed Thursday while still in a Fairfield hospital.
“We are devastated”, said BOTTG President Dan Clark. “George was a very talented and dedicated actor whom everyone loved.
He was one of those people who always had a smile on his face, and a hug for everyone. He was very generous in his stage work with other actors
and approached each role with enthusiasm and creativity. George came to the stage later in his life, and truly found his artistic niche.” Simmons first appeared on the BOTTG stage in 2015 in the role of “Wolf” in TWO TRAINS RUNNING , for which he was awarded
an ARTY Award as best supporting actor. Productions in other theater include roles in DEARLY DEPARTED, 12 ANGRY MEN, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD,
as well as several church productions. Theater tradition demands “that the show must go on”, and it will, Clark says. “Luckily we were able to recast this important role very quickly, but the loss of this wonderful man won’t easily be forgotten.”
